Agricultural Solar & Battery Storage for FNQ Farms

How dairies, graziers, packing sheds and growers across the Atherton Tablelands and greater Cairns region are cutting diesel costs, riding out blackouts, and locking in their power price with solar + Deye / Dyness storage — designed and installed by Shorecan since 2013.

Why FNQ farms are switching now

Diesel is eating margins

Generator runtime of 600–1,500 hours/year on remote farms now costs $15k–$40k a year in fuel and servicing. Solar + battery replaces most of that.

Refrigeration can't drop out

Dairy vats, cold rooms and packing-shed chillers spoil product the second the grid goes. Battery backup with sub-20ms changeover keeps them online.

Long feeders, frequent outages

Ergon's rural feeders see storm-season trips of 6–24 hours regularly. Grid-tied solar alone shuts off; solar + hybrid battery keeps the farm running.

Three-phase pumps and motors

Bores, vacuum pumps, augers and processing motors need balanced three-phase backup. Deye three-phase hybrids handle this natively.

Typical FNQ Farm Designs

Small Grazing Block
$60k – $95k

15–25 kW solar · 20–40 kWh Pytes / Dyness battery · single-phase Deye hybrid · genset interface. Cold rooms, bore, sheds.

Working Dairy / Packing Shed
$120k – $250k

40–100 kW solar · 60–150 kWh Dyness Stack 100 · three-phase Deye hybrid · auto-start diesel. Full plant backup, demand-shaving.

Off-Grid Cattle Station
$150k – $400k

50–200 kW solar · 100–300 kWh Dyness · multi-Deye stack · diesel hybrid. Replaces $30k+/yr diesel for homestead, sheds, bores.

The hardware we install on farms

Deye Three-Phase Hybrid Inverters

10-year warranty including full off-grid operation — almost no other hybrid inverter on the Australian market covers continuous off-grid use. Native generator auto-start, sub-20ms changeover, three-phase load balancing.

Dyness Stack 100 (commercial battery)

Modular LFP battery for dairies, packing sheds and commercial farm loads. Scales from 30 kWh to 300+ kWh. Tropical-rated for Tablelands heat and humidity.

Pytes LV1 (residential / cottage)

6,000-cycle LFP warranty — typically 15+ years of daily cycling. Right-sized for the farm cottage, workshop and small loads.

The diesel-displacement rule

On a typical FNQ farm, every kWh you push through a generator costs roughly $0.85–$1.20 in diesel + servicing. The same kWh from a solar + battery system, amortised over 15 years, is under $0.10. The payback isn't electricity price — it's diesel displacement. Most working farms hit ROI in 4–7 years and run another 10+ years on the original battery warranty.
