How much does an agricultural solar + battery system cost for a FNQ farm?

Most FNQ farm systems land between $60,000 and $250,000 installed depending on load. A small grazing block with refrigeration and a bore typically runs $60k–$95k (15–25 kW solar, 20–40 kWh battery). A working dairy or packing shed with three-phase loads is usually $120k–$250k (40–100 kW solar, 60–150 kWh Dyness Stack 100 battery, Deye three-phase hybrid). Can solar and battery storage replace a diesel generator on a Queensland farm?

Yes for daily load — solar + battery handles refrigeration, dairy plant, pumps and sheds 24/7 in normal weather. We still wire in a small diesel generator as wet-season insurance for 5–7 day overcast stretches, but typical diesel runtime drops from hundreds of hours a year to under 50 — often saving $8,000–$20,000 a year in fuel and servicing depending on farm size.

Will the system keep my refrigeration and dairy running through a blackout?

Yes. Deye hybrid inverters perform a sub-20ms changeover to battery — refrigeration compressors, vat coolers, milking plant and shed loads keep running without dropping out. For three-phase farms we install three-phase Deye inverters so all phases are backed up, not just one.

Are there rebates for agricultural solar in Queensland?

Yes. Federal STCs apply to solar PV systems up to 100 kW (Zone 2 multiplier in FNQ). The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program covers eligible 5–50 kWh battery systems installed from 1 July 2025. Farms over 100 kW move into the LGC market instead, and the instant asset write-off can apply to commercial agricultural installs — talk to your accountant.
