FNQ Battery Buyer's Guide
The Best Home Battery for Far North Queensland (2026)
Heat, humidity, storms and grid outages. What actually survives FNQ — by Shorecan Electrical & Solar (SAA S0111813), installing batteries from Tully to Atherton since 2013.
Our pick: Pytes LV1 + Deye hybrid inverter
We've installed every major battery brand sold into Australia. The combination we recommend by default for FNQ residential is the Pytes LV1 battery paired with a Deye hybrid inverter. It's the best balance of warranty, real-world cycle life, off-grid capability and FNQ thermal performance — and the inverter doesn't lose warranty cover the moment the grid drops, which matters here.
Head-to-head: Pytes LV1 vs Sigenergy Sigenstor vs Tesla Powerwall
| Spec | Pytes LV1 (+ Deye) | Sigenergy Sigenstor | Tesla Powerwall 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warranty | 10 yr / 6,000 cycles | 10 yr / 3,048 cycle MTE limit | 10 yr unlimited cycles |
| Min throughput (8 kWh) | ~23.77 MWh | ~15.85 MWh (5 kWh class) | Not specified by MTE |
| Off-grid warranty | Full 10 yr (Deye) | Limited on gateway | Backup-rated, ecosystem-locked |
| Modular expansion | Yes, stack to 30+ kWh | Yes | Multi-unit only |
| Chemistry | LiFePO₄ (safest) | LiFePO₄ | LiFePO₄ |
| FNQ heat handling | Rated to 50°C ambient | De-rates above 40°C | De-rates, requires shaded install |
What "6,000 cycles" actually means for your bill
A cycle is one full charge and discharge. At one full cycle per day, 6,000 cycles is 16+ years of daily use. Compare to Sigenergy's 3,048-cycle MTE limit — that's roughly 8 years to warranty exit on the same usage pattern.
On a 10 kWh battery offsetting Ergon retail (~30c/kWh) and avoiding 8c/kWh feed-in losses, every full cycle is worth ~$2.20 in real savings. 6,000 cycles × $2.20 = $13,200 of lifetime warranted value, vs ~$6,700 on the equivalent Sigenstor warranty window.
For commercial sites: Dyness Stack 100
For dairies, sheds, motels and warehouses we step up to the Dyness Stack 100 — high-voltage modular packs scaling to 100 kWh+ in a single rack. Paired with three-phase Deye hybrid inverters, it's the same warranty story (full off-grid cover) at commercial scale. We've installed this exact stack at our Dairy Farm and Soil Testing Warehouse case studies.
What to avoid
- Lead-acid in 2026. Cheap up-front, dead in 3–5 years in FNQ heat. We won't install them for grid-connect.
- Inverters with limited off-grid warranty. If the warranty card excludes off-grid or extended islanding, you're not covered when Ergon goes down — which happens.
- Closed ecosystems. If your battery only works with one brand of inverter, your upgrade and repair path is at the mercy of one manufacturer.
- "Cyclone-proof" claims with no Region C certification. Always ask for the engineering certificate.
