Off-Grid Solar

Off-Grid Solar & Battery Systems in Far North Queensland

Off-grid is what we do best. From Ravenshoe through to the Cairns hinterland, Shorecan designs stand-alone power systems that quietly run year-round — including dairy operations, rural homesteads and remote sheds where running new poles costs more than the system itself.

Full inverter warranty off-grid

Deye is one of the only hybrid inverter platforms whose 10-year warranty stays valid in full off-grid operation. Most competitors void or limit theirs.

Designed for FNQ wet seasons

We size every system for 5+ consecutive overcast days, with optional generator integration as a final safety net — not as a primary energy source.

Quiet, no diesel deliveries

Modern off-grid means no generator humming overnight, no diesel trips into town, no fuel storage. Just lithium and silicon doing the work.

Cheaper than a grid extension

Ergon grid extensions in rural FNQ regularly quote $80k–$200k+. A purpose-built off-grid system is usually a fraction of that, with no monthly grid charges afterwards.

A typical Shorecan off-grid system uses 10–30 kW of solar, a Dyness Stack 100 or Pytes LV1 battery bank sized for your overnight + reserve load, and a Deye hybrid inverter. Optional auto-start generator handles the rare extended wet-season event without anyone needing to touch a switch.

Off-grid done right means you never think about it. We design for the worst week of the year, not the average — that's the difference between a system you trust and one you nurse through every overcast stretch.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an off-grid system cost?

Residential off-grid systems typically start around $40,000 and scale up based on daily load and reserve days. A working dairy or business site usually lands between $80,000 and $200,000+ — still far less than a comparable grid extension in remote FNQ.

Do I still need a generator?

Not for daily operation. We design enough solar and storage to cover normal life year-round. A small auto-start generator is optional as insurance against a rare 5+ day overcast event — it might run a few hours per year.

Can I go off-grid if I'm already connected?

Often yes, especially if Ergon's quoted you a high pole-replacement cost or you're paying high daily supply charges. We'll model the disconnect economics honestly — sometimes staying connected with a battery is the better call.

Will the system handle a dairy or business load?

Yes. Our Ravenshoe dairy farm build runs the entire milking operation off-grid year-round. Commercial off-grid uses three-phase Deye inverters and Dyness Stack 100 banks scaled to the actual load profile.
